Autism is an inability
to communicate, or to make sense of the everyday world. People
who suffer from this condition find it difficult to relate to
other people or to form friendships. They find it hard to understand
what other people are feeling. |
| Autism
is a lifelong disorder, and it can't be cured. However, education
and support make a huge difference; the earlier the condition is
diagnosed the more the person suffering from it can be helped to
develop his or her full potential in life. |
 |
According
to Howard Buten, a clinical psychologist who is on the board of
an institution which cares for autistic people, there is a great
need for care for people suffering from autism in France. |
| "Although
France is one of the world's foremost countries when it comes
to providing medical care, autism is not as widely recognised
here as it is in other places. There are thousands of people suffering
from this condition who have to live at home because there are
no care places for them."
"What Ray
is doing is a publicity stunt - and a good one. Perhaps even more
important than the fund-raising is the fact that he is helping
to make more people in France aware of autism - what it is and
how it can be treated." |
